Welcome John Johnston and Aikido of Annapolis! Currently being
offered as a part of the Group Fitness Schedule, members can
join the classes and gain extraordinary proficiency in this
unique martial art. Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed
by Morihei Ueshiba (often referred to by his title 'O Sensei'
or 'Great Teacher'). It literally translates into "The
Way of Spirtual Harmony." On a physical level it is an art involving throws and joint locks that are derived from Jujitsu and other throws and techniques derived from Kendo, the “Way of the Sword”. Aikido focuses not on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on using their own energy to subdue them or to throw them away from you. It is not a static art. Aikido places great emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement. There are no attacks in Aikido!
Training takes place in a very relaxed and joyful environment under the guidance of Sensei John Johnston. Sensei Johnston has more than 20 years of Aikido experience and offers a traditional approach which encourages students to forget the hectic pace of life and just “Play Aikido”!
Come join us! All ages are welcome from 7 years and older. |
